Skagit Pink Adventure
On odd years, here in Washington, Pink salmon return to their natal river to restart their cycle: spawn, thrive, and die. Approximately 14 years ago, Steve Jones introduced a couple of us to the pleasures of pursuing Pinks on the fly in the Wild and Scenic section of the Skagit River, located near Marblemount, Washington. Pink salmon, also known as Humpies (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha), make the ideal quarry for the fly rod, weighing in at 5-6 lbs, responding well to the fly, and putting up a commendable fight when hooked.
This past week, Steve, I, and Steve's friend Alan returned to the Skagit. We managed to catch a significantly larger number of fish than we perhaps deserved, all against the backdrop of one of Washington's most breathtaking rivers. It was a great time with good friends, excellent fishing, and an overall splendid time. See you in a couple of years.
